Recordings collected and edited by ALAN LOMAX 12 INCH VINYL LP Columbia World Library of Folk and Primitive Music: Vol. 11: Japan, The Ryukyus, Formosa, and Korea (US) Columbia KL-214 Southern Korean tracks as stated on disc: Miruyan Araran (Arirang)/Sushim-Ka/Taki Taryon/Kyon Fu-Taryon/Sonju-Pri/Chun-Taryon (circ. late 1950s, as yet I can’t put an exact date on this LP but it is likely the 2nd vinyl record release of Korean traditional music after the [first pressings of the early 50s] Folkways LP listed elsewhere here, and the 3rd earliest release on vinyl of Korean music over-all. Recordings from Japan and the region including one LP side of Korean music. This album was also later repressed with the cat# 91A 02019. My copy which I have scanned here is the first pressing in a thick card cover and has a quite amazing fold out information insert attached within the gatefold cover. The actual recordings are I undertsand to be from the very early 50s, and working with information that Columbia KL-216 was released in 1955, I suspect this to be also a 1955 release, possibly late 1954. Note: there has been a lot written about the recordings of Alan Lomax but I can’t seem to find any details on the dates these particular recordings were made.)
Collectors notes: Scarce.
Mic’s collection status: I have this record. My copy has some shelf wear on cover but record is very clean.
